When it comes to Donald Trump, British voters aren’t holding back their opinions, especially now that he’s back in the White House. A recent survey by think-tank More in Common revealed just how strongly people feel about the former president.
The top word used to describe Trump? “Idiot.” It seems like many Brits aren’t too impressed, with “dangerous” following closely behind. Other words like “narcissist,” “arrogant,” and “criminal” also made the list. Ouch!
But hold on—it’s not all negative. Some Brits did find positive traits in the maverick Republican, calling him “funny,” “good,” “strong,” and even a “leader.”
All in all, about 60% of Brits have a negative view of Trump’s return, and half of them say they would have voted for his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. Only 28% would have chosen Trump.
Still, there’s a twist—Trump has found some surprising support among younger men. A solid 53% of men under 35 say they would have voted for Trump if they could. It seems like his brand of boldness really connects with this group!
As for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the survey found that 44% of Brits think his focus should be on building a positive relationship with Trump, while 37% believe he should challenge the president.
Luke Tryl, director of More in Common UK, shared that Brits have a “resigned pragmatism” when it comes to Trump. While they might not like him, they recognize the importance of working with him. It’s a feeling that’s especially true for younger men, who show much stronger support for Trump compared to the rest of the population.
So, while the love for Trump might not be spreading far and wide, it’s clear his influence is still being felt, particularly among younger voters. What do you think—are we seeing a shift in political support, or is this just a passing phase?
