CLIFTON – A devastating head-on collision on Airline Road Saturday night left four people injured and led to the arrest of a teenager from Harborside, authorities confirmed.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at around 8 p.m., where they found a Ford pickup truck had veered into oncoming traffic, striking an SUV head-on.
Kyle Gray, 19, of Harborside, was behind the wheel of the pickup truck. Investigators say he crossed into the opposite lane, causing the violent collision. The driver of the SUV suffered severe injuries and had to be extracted from the wreckage before being airlifted to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Three passengers in Gray’s truck were also hospitalized. Among them, a 17-year-old passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other two suffered minor injuries.
Authorities say Gray was driving under the influence and without proper license authorization. He now faces multiple charges, including OUI (Operating Under the Influence), aggravated driving, and operating beyond his license restrictions. After receiving medical attention, he was taken into custody and transported to Penobscot County Jail, where he remains detained.
The incident has left the Clifton community shaken, with officials urging drivers to prioritize road safety. Law enforcement is continuing its investigation to determine further details of the crash.
This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of reckless and impaired driving. Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
