Two people, including a 14-year-old girl, have been arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking and kidnapping that took place in Chicago’s South Loop on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the police, the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. in the 400 block of West Harrison Street. A 29-year-old woman was driving her car with a 1-year-old girl in the backseat when two suspects, an 18-year-old man and a teenage girl, suddenly got into the vehicle. The suspects attempted to steal the car and held the woman at gunpoint.
The carjackers forced the woman to keep driving until they reached the intersection of Harrison and Paulina. At that point, they ordered her and the baby to get out of the car. Thankfully, neither the woman nor the child was harmed during the incident.
Less than two hours later, police officers located and arrested both suspects in the 400 block of East 35th Street. The teenage girl was taken into custody and is now facing serious charges. She has been charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated kidnapping, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The 18-year-old suspect was identified as Taylen Byndum from Bolingbrook. He is facing multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular hijacking, armed kidnapping, and aggravated kidnapping.
Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident. The police have not released further details at this time. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to ensure justice is served.
