A tragic car accident in St. Paul, Nebraska, has left one person dead. The crash happened early Saturday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and Adams Street.
According to the St. Paul Police Department, the accident occurred at around 1:20 a.m. Investigators determined that a 2000 Honda Civic sedan was driving south on Highway 281 when the driver crossed the center line. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go off the road into a ditch on the west side. The car rolled over several times before crashing into a billboard.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the driver to Howard County Medical Center. Unfortunately, the driver did not survive. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name, as they are waiting to notify the family.
Police reported that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe that high speed played a role in the accident. The case is still under investigation.
Several agencies assisted St. Paul police officers at the scene, including the Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and St. Paul Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
St. Paul is a small town in central Nebraska with a population of about 2,400 people. It is located approximately 20 miles north of Grand Island.
