An Illinois man, Jordan Padilla, 21, has been arrested for seriously injuring a two-year-old girl after she threw his cellphone. The child suffered a fractured skull and a brain bleed, leaving her in critical condition.
Emergency Response and Discovery of Injuries
On March 15, deputies responded to a home in Plainfield Township after receiving a report about an unconscious but breathing toddler. When officers arrived at 6:50 p.m., emergency medical personnel were already treating the child.
Doctors noted that the little girl had bruising on her left eye and abdomen, a dilated left pupil, and possible internal injuries. She was immediately transferred to a hospital in Chicago due to the severity of her condition.
Investigation and Padilla’s Arrest
Both Padilla and the child’s mother were at home when the incident happened. However, officials say that Padilla gave conflicting statements about how the child got her injuries. Due to these inconsistencies, crime scene investigators launched an official inquiry.
During questioning, Padilla admitted to causing the child’s injuries. Detectives determined that he had hit the toddler in the face with his elbow after becoming angry that she threw his phone at him.
Charges and Legal Consequences
Padilla was immediately arrested and is now facing multiple charges, including:
- Battery
- Domestic Battery
- Aggravated Battery
- Aggravated Domestic Battery
- Aggravated Battery of a Child
Authorities confirmed that the toddler remains in critical but stable condition as she continues to receive treatment.
What Happened That Night?
According to Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dan Jungles, Padilla became furious when the toddler threw his phone. Out of rage, he struck her in the face with his elbow, causing severe injuries. The child’s mother was at home but did not witness the attack, and Padilla never told her what happened.
Padilla has been taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and will stay in custody until his first court appearance.
This tragic incident highlights the importance of protecting children from violent and dangerous environments. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further legal actions will be taken against Padilla.
