Decatur police have arrested multiple individuals in connection to a terrifying shooting that struck a home while the resident was inside. The incident, which took place in the early hours of July 31, 2024, led to months of investigation before authorities tracked down all suspects.

According to the Decatur Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 12:17 a.m. in the 1000 block of Danville Road. Upon arrival, they found a shaken victim whose home had been struck by bullets. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from a nearby business, which helped them identify multiple suspects. Arrest warrants were subsequently issued for Hunter Lane Aldridge, Tylan Ramon Whitfield, Shun’terias Watson, and two juveniles.

The arrests began quickly, with Whitfield being taken into custody on August 7, 2024, and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied building. He was booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $5,000 bond. The next day, both juveniles, aged 17, were arrested and faced the same charge. One received a $5,000 bond, while the other was held on a $10,000 bond.

Watson was arrested on August 20, 2024, and also charged with firing into the residence. He was booked on a $5,000 bond. However, Aldridge remained at large for nearly seven months before finally being apprehended on February 26, 2025. Like the juveniles, he was charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied building and booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting, but the arrests bring a measure of relief to the Decatur community. Law enforcement continues to urge residents to report suspicious activity to prevent further violent incidents.
