The NYPD is searching for five suspects involved in a violent robbery on a southbound 2 train in Longwood. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on March 7 at the Freeman Street subway station, leaving a 23-year-old man shaken but expected to recover.
Caught on Camera
Authorities released surveillance footage from inside the subway car, showing the individuals wanted for questioning. According to police, the group assaulted the victim by punching him in the back of the head before stealing his phone.
Fear Among Subway Riders
As news of the attack spread, many Bronx residents expressed concerns about subway safety, especially at night.
“It’s very scary because you don’t know what to expect anymore, especially in New York City,” said Karen Chavez, a resident of Concourse.
Gregory Kortright of Longwood echoed the sentiment, adding, “I personally don’t feel the subways are safe… I don’t get on the subway after 10 o’clock.”
Call for Justice
The NYPD is urging anyone with information about the suspects to come forward. As subway crime remains a concern, officials continue working to ensure public safety.
Anyone with details about the incident is asked to contact police.
