Berlin, VT – A chaotic scene unfolded Monday evening when a Montpelier man ran into oncoming traffic and later bit police officers attempting to arrest him.
According to Berlin police, officers responded to multiple reports around 6 p.m. of a man darting in front of vehicles on Vermont Route 12 near Pine Hill Drive. When officers arrived, they found 42-year-old Victor Pino behaving erratically.
Authorities say that when they attempted to speak with Pino, he refused to cooperate. The situation quickly escalated as Pino allegedly tried to grab an officer’s duty weapon and then bit multiple officers while resisting arrest.
Despite the violent struggle, officers were able to take Pino into custody. However, he was later released and issued a citation. Pino is expected to appear in court tomorrow to face multiple charges related to the incident.
This bizarre and dangerous episode has left many in the community shocked. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether drugs or mental health issues played a role in the incident.
