A Roanoke man, 67-year-old Michael Anthony McCoy, has been charged with the robbery of two banks within a three-day span. McCoy made his first appearance in federal court this week, facing charges of conspiracy, brandishing a firearm, and two counts of bank robbery.
Prosecutors allege that on October 26, 2022, McCoy directed a woman, Dawn Davis, to write a note demanding money from a bank teller. The note read, “Do as I say and no one will die.”
McCoy then entered the Truist bank branch, handed the note to the teller, brandished a gun, and fled with $6,485. Two days later, he allegedly committed another robbery at a different Truist branch, stealing nearly $6,000.
Dawn Davis, 55, of Roanoke, has already pleaded guilty to related charges, providing further evidence that implicates McCoy in these crimes. The FBI and local authorities continue to investigate the robberies, which have caused concern throughout the Roanoke community.
McCoy remains in custody, awaiting trial. As the case moves forward, it highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat violent crime in the area, particularly bank robberies that put both customers and employees at risk.
