In Rainbow City, Alabama, a man was shot and killed by police after firing at officers during a tense domestic dispute that escalated into a dangerous situation, authorities said.
The incident happened on Wednesday when officers were called to a home about a domestic issue that quickly spiraled into what police described as a “hostage situation.” According to a statement from the Rainbow City Police Department, the man began shooting at officers who had arrived at the scene. The officers fired back, killing him.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is now looking into the case at the request of Rainbow City police. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be handed over to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office for review.
On Thursday, state officials identified the man as 46-year-old Jamin David Elkins from Mount Dora, Florida, a small city located about 30 miles northwest of Orlando.
Rainbow City, where the incident occurred, is a town in eastern Alabama, about 93 miles west of Atlanta, Georgia.
This tragic event has left many in the community shaken as authorities work to piece together what led to such a violent confrontation.
