A man accused of kidnapping a young woman in Texas reportedly told police he did it for money, but his actions seemed to suggest there was more to the story.
Police Sergeant Rick Alexander of Haltom City described the suspect, 35-year-old Eduardo Javier Ordonez Godoy, as disturbingly proud of what he had done. “He smirked a lot, he giggled, and almost seemed proud of what he did,” Alexander said in an interview.
Godoy allegedly threatened the 22-year-old woman, telling her he would either sell her organs or force her into prostitution, according to court documents. “He claims he’s just a thief and wanted money,” Alexander explained, “but he went beyond that when he brought a firearm into it.”
The ordeal began early Tuesday morning when the woman was walking to her car at the Acacia Apartments in Haltom City around 4:45 a.m. That’s when Godoy reportedly abducted her at gunpoint. He drove her roughly 22 miles to the Camden Apartments on Grapevine Mills Parkway in Grapevine, where he briefly restrained her. Fortunately, the woman managed to escape and find help while Godoy fled the scene in her vehicle.
The case took another turn on Christmas when police in Oklahoma City spotted the stolen car in a parking lot. Officers found Godoy inside the vehicle and arrested him on the spot. Authorities said they recovered evidence at the scene that linked him to the crime.
Police revealed that Godoy, originally from Honduras, had a history of similar offenses and had been deported in the past. Now, he faces serious charges in Texas, including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, he is also charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and using a firearm while committing a felony. Additionally, Godoy is under an ICE detainer due to his immigration status.
This shocking case underscores the bravery of the young woman who managed to escape, as well as the swift work of law enforcement in bringing the suspect into custody.
