A shocking and tragic case has surfaced in Odessa, Texas, where a 22-year-old woman, Yanira Prado, is facing serious charges after authorities say her newborn baby was found dead in her toilet. According to investigators, the baby was born alive but later died from asphyxia.
It all started back on October 9, when police responded to Prado’s home. Inside, they discovered the heartbreaking scene—a deceased baby in the toilet. Prado was taken to the Medical Center Hospital for an evaluation, and investigators immediately had questions about what had happened.
Suspecting foul play, they ordered a full autopsy to get answers. On December 6, the results came in, confirming the worst. The autopsy revealed that the baby had been born full-term, alive, and breathing. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxia. With this information, homicide investigators took over the case.
After a thorough investigation, police concluded that Prado had “intentionally and knowingly” caused the baby’s death. She was arrested without any trouble and is now facing a charge of capital murder. That’s not all—Prado is also accused of tampering with evidence and is being held on an immigration-related charge.
Right now, Prado is sitting in the Ector County Law Enforcement Center with her bail set at a hefty $1 million. Her case has been handed over to the Ector County District Attorney’s Office, which will take it from here.
This tragic situation has left the Odessa community in shock, and many are waiting to see how justice unfolds for the newborn baby who lost their life under such heartbreaking circumstances.
