A scary incident in the Bronx on Thanksgiving has come to a close after police arrested the man who stole a car with a 7-year-old boy inside. The suspect, Mohamed Sakho, now faces a long list of charges, including car theft, kidnapping, robbery, and abandoning a child, police said.
It all started on Mac Donough Place in the Country Club neighborhood of the Bronx. A father had just parked his Acura RDX in front of his house to bring his 2-year-old child inside. But when he came back out to get his 7-year-old son, he saw a stranger driving away with the car — and his son still in it.
The family immediately contacted the police, who used the Acura’s built-in tracking app to locate the car. While officers were searching for the stolen vehicle and the boy, they got a call about a crash involving a car matching the description of the stolen Acura.
Thankfully, a Good Samaritan found the young boy crying near the abandoned car and called the police. The child was safe, but shaken up, while the suspect had already fled the scene.
The next day, police arrested Sakho, 22, for a separate robbery on Baychester Avenue. In that incident, he allegedly snatched a bag from a 42-year-old man. During the investigation, police connected him to the car theft and kidnapping from the day before.
Sakho, who already has a prior arrest from April for carrying a loaded gun, was still waiting for his arraignment on Saturday afternoon.
For the boy’s family, what started as a normal Thanksgiving turned into a nightmare. Thankfully, with the help of technology and quick-thinking police officers, their story had a safe ending.
