Christmas night at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport took a chaotic turn when gunfire erupted, leaving three people shot and another stabbed, according to police. One of the victims was critically injured.
The trouble started around 9:45 p.m. near a restaurant in Terminal 4, just outside the security checkpoint. When officers arrived, they found a woman and two men with gunshot wounds. All three were rushed to the hospital. The woman’s injuries were the most serious, while the two men were expected to recover.
Not long after, police tracked down a man and a teenage girl in the airport’s parking garage. The man had been stabbed and was also taken to the hospital but was in stable condition. The girl didn’t seem to be hurt.
Investigators say this wasn’t a random attack. Apparently, the people involved all knew each other, and things got physical before one of them pulled a gun. It’s still unclear who fired the shots.
Thankfully, no bystanders at the airport were injured. However, the incident did cause some temporary disruptions. The security checkpoint was closed for a while, and the airport’s Sky Train was briefly paused. Police later confirmed everything was back to normal.
As if that wasn’t enough, there was a second, unrelated scare at the airport later that night. A man received a text warning about a possible active shooter. He showed up at the airport armed and ended up getting into a confrontation with police. He was arrested and is now facing several charges.
Police are continuing to investigate both incidents, but they’ve made it clear the situations were separate and not connected.
