Kalamazoo, Mich. — The Kalamazoo community is grappling with a tragic incident after a man was found dead on Thursday. Authorities have confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide, and an arrest has already been made.

It all started around 1:30 p.m. when officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) were called to E. Main Street, close to E. Michigan Avenue. A report came in about an unresponsive man lying in the area. When officers arrived and assessed the scene, they confirmed the man had passed away. That’s when an investigation kicked off.

By Friday morning, KDPS investigators had determined the man’s death was not accidental but a homicide. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Jeromey Harvey, a Kalamazoo resident.

Later on Friday evening, KDPS shared an update: someone had been taken into custody in connection with Jeromey Harvey’s death. The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday for arraignment.

“This is a heartbreaking situation, and our team is doing everything possible to uncover the truth and provide answers to Mr. Harvey’s family,” said Executive Lt. Robert Holdwick of the KDPS Criminal Investigation Division.
