On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the Metropolitan Police Department shared updates about a tragic shooting that happened in Southeast DC.

It all began on Saturday morning, January 18, at around 9:27 a.m., when officers from the Seventh District were called to the 1300 block of Congress Street, Southeast, after reports of a shooting. When they arrived at an apartment in the area, they discovered a man who had been shot. Emergency responders from DC Fire and EMS quickly arrived but, sadly, found no signs of life. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Raymont Owens, who was from Southeast DC.

Police are now investigating the incident and are asking for help from anyone who may know something about what happened.
