Indianapolis police have arrested a young suspect after an armed carjacking that took place over the weekend on the city’s near north side. The dramatic series of events unfolded early Saturday morning, November 30, in the 3000 block of North Illinois Street, near West 30th Street.

It all started around 12:30 a.m. when a man reported that three masked individuals approached him, pointed a gun in his face, and demanded his car keys. The trio then drove off in his silver Dodge Journey, heading west.

Just 15 minutes later, officers spotted the stolen car near North Sherman Drive and East 30th Street. But the driver didn’t stop. Instead, they led police on a chase through the city streets. The pursuit came to an end a short while later when the vehicle crashed in the 3800 block of Harvest Avenue, close to 38th Street and North Franklin Road.

After the crash, things got chaotic. All three suspects jumped out of the car and ran. Officers quickly caught one of them—a juvenile male—but the other two managed to get away.

The young suspect now faces some serious charges, including felony armed carjacking and auto theft. He’s also being charged with resisting law enforcement and refusing to identify himself. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide on the final charges.

Meanwhile, detectives are still on the hunt for the other two suspects. If you know anything that could help solve this case, Detective Todd Lappin wants to hear from you. You can email him at [email protected] or call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477. Tips can be shared anonymously, and if your information leads to an arrest, you could get a reward of up to $1,000.

This is a good reminder to always be alert and report any suspicious activity in your area. Every piece of information can make a big difference in keeping the community safe.
