In Berkeley, California, a quiet neighborhood was shaken by a violent incident on Saturday afternoon, leaving residents stunned and searching for answers. A car theft turned tragic, resulting in the stabbing of three people—two men and a woman. Sadly, the woman did not survive.
It all unfolded on Russell Street, where traces of blood on the pavement now serve as a grim reminder of what happened. One neighbor, who preferred to stay anonymous, described the shocking scene. “I saw two people lying there. One man was screaming for help, and the other was just motionless in the middle of the street,” he shared.
According to police, the chain of events began when one of the victims reported their car stolen. In a 911 call, the car’s owner said they were following the thief to the area of 1332 Russell Street. Dispatchers could hear the commotion in the background of the call as tensions escalated.
Minutes later, another call came through reporting a stabbing. A dispatcher relayed the urgency of the situation, describing a man on the ground, bleeding and shouting for help. Police officers arriving at the scene quickly realized the severity of the incident. One officer urgently requested paramedics from the Berkeley Fire Department, saying, “We need them here, code 3, at Burnett and Acton. There’s an unresponsive woman with multiple stab wounds.”
Despite efforts to save her, the woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The two men who were stabbed are now in stable condition, according to authorities.
One resident, who witnessed the aftermath, noted that the area has been seeing more unusual activity recently. “I’ve noticed cars being abandoned around here. I’ve reported a couple to the city myself,” he said, expressing his frustration and concern about the changes in the neighborhood.
Berkeley Police told the media that this was an isolated incident and assured the public that there’s no ongoing threat. However, for many living in the area, the violence feels out of place. Mandy, a local resident, said, “It’s really rare to see something like this. Sure, you might hear about a car being broken into or dumped, but a triple stabbing? That’s just unheard of.”
For now, residents are left to piece together what led to this tragedy, hoping their peaceful community can return to the way it was.
