It’s been over two months since 28-year-old Esmeralda Rodriguez Perez tragically lost her life during a child’s birthday party on Betsy Lane. On September 8th, what should’ve been a joyful celebration turned into a nightmare when a drive-by shooting left Esmeralda dead and another man injured. Her family says she wasn’t the intended target.
Now, Esmeralda’s family is stepping up to bring those responsible to justice. Her sister, deeply grieving, is offering $5,000 of the family’s own money for information that could lead to an arrest. Esmeralda was a devoted mother of four children, the youngest just a baby. Her loss has left an unimaginable void.
“They didn’t just take my sister,” her heartbroken sister shared. “They took a mother who didn’t deserve this. I hope the people who did this can’t sleep at night and feel some kind of guilt.”
Police have identified two suspects: 22-year-old Brian Marquez Chavez and 18-year-old Kevin Marquez Chavez. Warrants have been issued for their arrest on charges of murder and attempted murder, but so far, the men are still at large.
The family believes the reward money might encourage someone to come forward with critical information. They’re holding on to hope, even as they face the holidays without Esmeralda. “We’re asking for help to bring justice for Esmeralda and her kids,” said family friend Lesly Diaz. “The holidays feel so heavy without her here.”
Bluegrass Crime Stoppers says the investigation is still active, and they’re urging anyone with information to speak up. If you know where the suspects might be, you can call the police or Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020. Tips can remain anonymous, and there’s a chance for a cash reward.
Esmeralda’s family has even shared a heartfelt video in Spanish, appealing to the community for help. They refuse to let her memory fade and are determined to see justice served for her children, her family, and everyone who loved her.
