Authorities in Georgia are investigating the tragic death of a six-month-old baby at a daycare in Statesboro. The infant, Lennon Sammons, was found unresponsive in a bouncer seat at Pittman Park Church Education Center on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, according to the Statesboro Police Department.
Police officers arrived at the daycare and found the baby unresponsive. Paramedics rushed Lennon to Georgia Regional Medical Center. Later, she was transferred to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, where she sadly passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), which oversees daycare centers in the state, has launched an investigation into the incident. In a statement, DECAL expressed deep sadness over the child’s death and confirmed that emergency services were contacted immediately after the baby was found unresponsive. The investigation into what happened at the daycare is still ongoing.
Reverend Dr. Jonathan Smith, senior pastor of Pittman Park United Methodist Church, which runs the daycare, also shared his condolences with the family. He said the entire daycare community is mourning the loss and that they are fully cooperating with DECAL’s investigation.
Captain Jared Akins from the Statesboro Police Department stated that the autopsy and official cause of death determination could take several months. He acknowledged how difficult the waiting process is for the child’s family and loved ones but emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation.
