In a heartbreaking incident on Christmas Day, a toddler’s death in St. Paul is being investigated, with authorities suspecting narcotics might be involved.
St. Paul police shared that officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Fifth Street East around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They were responding to a report of a child who was unresponsive.
The little one, just a year and a half old, was rushed to Regions Hospital. Sadly, despite efforts, the child couldn’t be saved and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators are now looking into what caused the tragedy, and early findings suggest narcotics may have played a role. The exact cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
As part of their investigation, police have arrested two people — a 38-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman. Their connection to the incident is being closely examined.
This devastating case has shaken the community, and police say the investigation is still ongoing as they work to piece together what happened.
