Incident Details
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, December 1, Coach Downer had parked his car near the intersection of Givan Avenue and Eastchester Road in the Baychester neighborhood. As he exited his vehicle to walk home, an out-of-control driver collided with him, resulting in fatal injuries. The driver fled the scene, and authorities are actively investigating the incident. Coach Downer was a dedicated mentor with the Bronx Buccaneers Youth Football Program and DeWitt Clinton High School. Known for his tough yet compassionate coaching style, he profoundly impacted many young athletes.
