An 18-year-old man died from his injuries after a shooting in West Humboldt Park that also wounded two others.
The incident happened on Sunday around 3:26 p.m. in the 4200 block of West Crystal Street. Erik Colon, 18, was standing outside a home with two other people when shots were fired, according to Chicago police.
Colon was hit multiple times. Despite his injuries, he managed to get himself to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, Colon did not survive and passed away on Tuesday. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.
A second victim, a 23-year-old man, also suffered gunshot wounds. He went to Humboldt Park Health on his own and was reported to be in critical condition. Like Colon, he was later transferred to Stroger Hospital for further care.
The third victim, a 16-year-old boy, was also shot but had less severe injuries. He took himself to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. He, too, was later transferred to Stroger Hospital.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police have not released any details about possible suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
