A Russian woman has been accused of giving birth in a Turkish airport restroom and leaving her newborn in freezing toilet water before boarding a flight home.
Ekaterina Burnazkina, 29, is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly abandoning her baby girl in an Antalya Airport bathroom in October 2024. According to prosecutors, a cleaner found the newborn just 12 minutes later, preventing a tragic outcome.
Security Footage and Investigation
Surveillance cameras reportedly captured Burnazkina entering the restroom alone and later rejoining her family as if nothing had happened. In court, she denied the charges and pleaded to have her baby returned to her. The child is currently under state protection.
Burnazkina’s mother claimed she had no idea her daughter was pregnant when they were stopped at passport control before their flight to Moscow. Both women were detained by Antalya Police, and the baby was immediately taken to a hospital for medical care. Burnazkina was also hospitalized for treatment.
Medical Examination and Testimonies
A doctor who examined Burnazkina testified in court that she never mentioned being pregnant. She had visited a clinic with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. After running blood tests, doctors diagnosed her with food poisoning.
“We didn’t perform a pregnancy test since we had no reason to suspect it,” the doctor explained. “She also looked overweight, and during a manual examination, we mistook any movements for intestinal activity.”
Baby’s Condition and Legal Proceedings
Prosecutors stated that the newborn was left unclothed and exposed to the cold in the toilet water, putting her life in danger. Fortunately, she was rescued in time and is now recovering in an Antalya hospital.
Burnazkina continues to deny the charges, but the court proceedings are ongoing. Authorities are still investigating the case to determine the full details of what happened in the airport restroom that day.
