Tragic Turn in Harlem: Postal Worker Fatally Stabbed Over Deli Dispute

Share news:

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Harlem, New York City, on Thursday afternoon, leaving a community mourning the loss of a beloved postal worker. Ray Hodge, 36, was tragically killed during a shocking argument at a neighborhood deli. The dispute reportedly started over something as simple as whose turn it was to order at the sandwich counter.

Witnesses shared that the argument quickly escalated between Hodge and 24-year-old Jaia Cruz. Despite efforts by others in the deli to defuse the situation, the altercation turned violent. Cruz is accused of stabbing Hodge in the chest, neck, and arms. Police later found him lying on the floor in his postal uniform, gravely injured.

Cruz was charged with murder and is now being held without bail. Her lawyer has yet to comment on the case. The horrific incident has shaken the Harlem community, where many are grappling with the senseless loss of a man known for his kindness.

Ray Hodge wasn’t just a postal worker—he was someone who went the extra mile for those he served. Alejandro Alarcon, a resident on Hodge’s delivery route in the Bronx, shared a touching memory of how the letter carrier recently helped him track a missing package. Hodge’s dedication and warm personality left a lasting impression on many in his community.

Outside Hodge’s home in the Bronx, neighbors came together on Friday to create a heartfelt memorial. Candles were placed around his postal hat as a tribute to the man they described as both hardworking and generous.

This tragedy has left many questioning how a seemingly minor disagreement could lead to such devastating consequences. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service confirmed that Hodge was a letter carrier assigned to Manhattan, and his death has deeply affected his colleagues and community alike.
