A young boy was rushed to the hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the arm with a gun at an apartment complex in southwest Houston.
The incident happened on Wednesday evening around 8:15 p.m. at an apartment complex on Sandpiper Drive near Fondren Road. It was a shocking and scary moment for everyone involved.
According to the Houston Police Department, several family members were inside the apartment when the accident occurred. An adult relative reportedly slipped on the tile floor, and as they fell, their gun dropped to the ground. That’s when a curious 7-year-old boy picked up the weapon, likely not realizing the danger. Tragically, the gun went off, and the bullet hit the boy in his right forearm.
The family acted quickly, and the child was taken to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, doctors say he’s in stable condition and is expected to recover.
The authorities have since recovered the gun, and an investigation is underway to figure out all the details of what happened. This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder about the importance of keeping firearms safely out of reach, especially when children are around.
Neighbors in the area are shaken by the event, but they’re hopeful the little boy makes a full recovery. For now, investigators are working to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.
