Travis Hunter to Enter NFL Draft, Remains Committed to Colorado’s Playoff Ambitions

Travis Hunter, the dynamic junior who has made a name for himself playing both receiver and cornerback for the University of Colorado, has confirmed his plans to enter the NFL draft after this season. However, his immediate focus remains on guiding the Buffaloes through their potential College Football Playoff run.

Hunter, known for his dual-role versatility on the field, emphasized his commitment to his team’s success this season before making the leap to the professional ranks. Despite the risks associated with the expanded playoff format, which now potentially includes up to four extra games, Hunter expressed his intent to participate fully, dismissing the idea of opting out to avoid injury.

“The way the playoff is set up now, there’s more opportunity to make an impact, but sure, there’s a higher injury risk,” Hunter stated. “Opting out could show you’re more worried about personal future than team goals. I’m not about that. My focus is on winning with this team as far as we can go.”

This season, Hunter has been a standout player for Colorado, contributing significantly on both sides of the ball. He has amassed 74 receptions for 911 yards and nine touchdowns as a receiver, and has added three interceptions as a cornerback, a testament to his defensive prowess even as opposing teams avoid throwing in his direction.

His performance has placed him as a top contender for the Heisman Trophy, an accolade he’s humbly hopeful for, even as he cheers on his teammate, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is also in the race. “If it’s between me and him, I want him to get it,” Hunter said, praising Sanders’s deserving efforts.

Sanders, for his part, has been equally impressive, throwing for 27 touchdowns this season, just one shy of the school’s single-season record. His leadership has been pivotal in turning around a program that went 4-8 last season to achieving bowl eligibility and contending for a Big 12 title this year.

The duo’s synergy and mutual respect have been key to Colorado’s success under coach Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father. As they prepare for their upcoming game against Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium, both players are focused on the immediate goal of winning the Big 12 championship, a milestone that would cap off their remarkable collegiate careers.

As Hunter and Sanders look towards their future in the NFL, they remain anchored in their commitment to Colorado, aiming to leave a lasting legacy that transcends their individual achievements.
