A deadly attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Eve has left the city in shock and mourning. On Bourbon Street, a driver rammed into a crowd of revelers just after 3 a.m., killing 10 people and injuring 35 others. The incident has been called a terrorist attack, and both local and federal authorities are working around the clock to understand what happened and find those responsible.
President-elect Donald Trump expressed his outrage, calling the attack “pure evil” and highlighting his concerns about crime in America. On social media, Trump said, “When I warned about criminals coming in, many refuted it. But sadly, it turned out to be true.” He pledged full support to the city of New Orleans as they investigate the tragedy. His message also sent his thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
On the other hand, President Joe Biden assured the public that the FBI is leading the investigation. He stressed that federal, state, and local authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the truth and ensure no further threats remain. “There is no justification for violence,” Biden said, condemning the attack and offering all available resources to help in the investigation.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell did not mince words, calling it a “terrorist attack” in a press conference. Police reported that the driver intentionally targeted the crowd and, after stopping the vehicle, opened fire on officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the driver.
Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed the FBI’s involvement, emphasizing that this is being treated as a serious act of terrorism. He reassured the public that every resource is being used to investigate and bring justice.
This heartbreaking tragedy has shaken New Orleans, but the city’s leaders and law enforcement are united in their commitment to uncovering the truth and keeping the community safe. We can only hope that those responsible are held accountable for this senseless act.
