US to Ramp Up Strikes on Yemen’s Houthis Before Biden’s Term

Share news:

In a significant move, the United States has informed Israel that it plans to intensify its military actions against Yemen’s Houthi rebels before President Joe Biden’s term ends, according to a report by KAN 11. The decision comes amid growing tensions, with the Houthis launching more missile attacks on Israel, leading to a sharp response from the US.

As part of this escalation, the US intends to target more missile-related sites in Yemen, aiming to disrupt the Houthi’s military capabilities. A reliable source revealed that President Biden has authorized “permissive strike authorizations,” giving the green light for these operations.

At the same time, the US administration has asked Israel to ensure that any strikes in Yemen focus solely on military targets to avoid civilian casualties.

US Navy Strikes on Houthi Facilities

Over the weekend, the US Navy launched Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles, hitting Houthi weapon production and storage facilities in Yemen. This move was part of the broader strategy to respond to the missile attacks coming from the Houthis. Early Friday, a Houthi missile aimed at southern and central Israel was intercepted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), preventing any casualties despite some missile shrapnel landing in Modi’in. However, 12 people were injured while rushing to shelters.

The Rising Threat from Houthi Attacks

The situation is growing increasingly tense. After a series of strikes, the Houthi rebels threatened to retaliate against Israel, vowing a “huge” response. This follows a deadly attack on the port of Hodeida in Yemen, which the Houthis blamed on Israel.

Trump’s Potential Response

Looking ahead, sources suggest that US President-elect Donald Trump is gearing up to take a stronger stance against the Houthis when he takes office on January 20. Trump’s administration is expected to respond decisively to the ongoing attacks on US Navy ships by the Houthis, who are reportedly using Iranian-supplied missiles. Trump’s former special representative for Iran, Elliot Abrams, made it clear that the president-elect would not tolerate this, vowing stronger action against the Houthis. Additionally, experts like Mark Dubowitz from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies predict that Trump may re-designate the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

As the situation unfolds, the world watches closely to see how these tensions will impact the region and global security.
