A Utah man’s frustration over a faulty car led him to drive it right into the dealership where he had bought it. Michael Lee Murray, 35, purchased a used Subaru Outback from the Tim Dahle Mazda Southtowne dealership in Sandy, Utah, for $4,000. However, shortly after buying it, Murray realized the car had serious mechanical issues. He returned to the dealership, hoping for a refund, but was told the car was sold “as is,” meaning it couldn’t be returned.
The dealership had warned Murray before the sale that the car needed some repairs, but that didn’t stop him from getting angry when his refund request was denied. He allegedly threatened to ram the car into the dealership if he wasn’t given his money back. Despite efforts to calm him down, Murray didn’t listen. Instead, he got into his car, drove through the front of the building, and crashed into the dealership’s glass doors.
A wild video recorded inside the dealership shows the moment when Murray smashed the Subaru into the storefront, sending debris flying. As the glass shattered, Murray shouted, “I told you mother f–kers! I told you!” before storming out of the dealership. Employees inside scrambled, with one calling for police as others rushed to turn off the car’s engine.
Though the incident caused about $10,000 in damages to the dealership, luckily no one was hurt. The police quickly arrested Murray outside, charging him with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and economic interruption. He was released from jail the next day and later told Inside Edition that his anger over the situation had pushed him to his “breaking point.”
“I just kind of blacked out for a second,” Murray said, admitting that he probably shouldn’t have driven his car through the dealership. Despite the chaos, he acknowledged the need for a calmer response but explained his actions were driven by frustration over the money he spent.
