A wild gang bust in New York City has taken two dangerous Venezuelan gang members off the streets after they were tied to a dramatic apartment invasion in Colorado. These arrests are part of a major crackdown on the Tren de Aragua, a violent group involved in drugs, fraud, and more, sources say.
Early Wednesday morning, police nabbed 23-year-old Denyeer Aramillo Meneses and 25-year-old Edison Pena Angulo in the Bronx. This operation was led by a task force that included the NYPD and US Homeland Security, and it also took down 13 others connected to the gang.
For months, investigators had been digging into gang-related drug trafficking and violence. The group was dealing heroin, fake marijuana, and a synthetic drug called Tussi. They weren’t just pushing drugs, though—they were also pulling off credit card scams and packing serious firepower. During the raid, cops found three assault rifles, two handguns, and cans of ammo.
A source involved in the case said enough was enough when it came to these gang members. “Their time is up,” the source added.
Back in Colorado, Meneses and Angulo were wanted for a shocking apartment raid in Aurora in August. They and several other armed men reportedly stormed an apartment complex, threatened people with guns, and were caught on camera. This happened just before another man, 25-year-old Oswaldo Jose Dabion Araujo, was killed at the same complex. The gang had been taking over apartments in the area, driving some residents to pack up and leave out of fear for their safety.
One former resident, Cindy Romero, shared her experience of living in constant fear. “Every night, we locked every bolt and latch on our door, just hoping nobody would kick it in,” she said.
Aurora, a city near Denver, has seen an influx of Venezuelan migrants in recent years, some bringing gang ties along with them. Residents are left feeling uneasy, with some saying they’re counting the days until they can move away.
While the charges against the suspects in New York remain under wraps for now, this takedown marks a big step in shutting down the gang’s operations. For now, both New York and Colorado communities are hoping this is the beginning of the end for the chaos caused by these criminals.
