In a shocking twist, a Virginia man has been arrested after federal authorities uncovered an alarming stash of homemade explosives at his house, making it the largest seizure of finished explosive devices in FBI history.
Brad Spafford, a Smithfield resident, was arrested on December 17 after a raid by the FBI. The authorities found over 150 homemade explosive devices, described as pipe bombs, in his detached garage. Some were even labeled as “lethal.” Along with the explosives, agents discovered materials used to create these dangerous devices, like fuses and PVC pipes.
Even more disturbing, several of these bombs were found unsecured in a backpack inside his bedroom. The words “#nolivesmatter” were scrawled on the backpack, linking Spafford to an extremist group known for promoting violence and harmful behavior.
Adding to the terrifying nature of the discovery, Spafford allegedly kept an unstable explosive substance in his freezer, hidden next to food items like Hot Pockets. Authorities also found that he had been using images of the president for target practice and expressed support for violent political acts.
Spafford’s arrest came after an investigation started when a source tipped off authorities about his dangerous activities. It’s also reported that he had been making homemade ammunition daily.
Now, Spafford faces serious charges, and authorities warn of the extreme danger he posed to his family and community. His release could be a major threat, especially to those tasked with inspecting his home for explosives.
