I remember when getting a fast food breakfast was a bit of a challenge. Not anymore! Now, almost every fast food place has breakfast sandwiches, and each chain is trying to stand out in the crowded market.
As a regular customer of Starbucks breakfast sandwiches, I have to admit, I wasnโt completely sold on all of their options. So, I decided to do a little research and taste test different sandwiches from several fast food chains to get a better idea of whatโs out there.
I picked sandwiches from a variety of chains to get a well-rounded view of the breakfast egg sandwich scene. Over a few mornings, my husband and I tried these sandwiches and ranked them based on texture, flavor, and overall experience. And let me tell you, I found some hidden gems along the way.
McDonaldโs Sausage McMuffin With Egg
I remember when getting McDonaldโs breakfast felt like a win. I used to love the Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel, but itโs no longer on the menu. So, I tried the Sausage McMuffin with Egg. Honestly, it was just too simple. It was dry, both in texture and flavor. The muffin was kind of gummy, and overall, it didnโt stand out. If you need a quick breakfast on the go, it might work, but itโs not something Iโd crave regularly.
Starbucksโ Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich
I usually enjoy Starbucksโ breakfast sandwiches, but the Double-Smoked Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich didnโt impress me this time. The croissant was dry, not flaky, and it lacked that buttery, light texture that a croissant should have. Iโve had this sandwich before and enjoyed it more, but consistency is key in fast food, and this one missed the mark.
Starbucksโ Egg, Pesto & Mozzarella Sandwich
I was excited to try the Egg, Pesto & Mozzarella Sandwich because I love pesto. Unfortunately, the pesto was just too strong, and it overpowered the other flavors. The sandwich itself was soft, but the texture felt like it had been microwaved. If you love pesto, this might be your thing, but for me, it was a bit much.
Wendyโs Bacon, Egg & Swiss Croissant
Wendyโs Bacon, Egg & Swiss Croissant looked promising, but the croissantโs texture was off. It wasnโt flaky like I expectedโit was soft and a bit dense, likely from sitting under a heat lamp. The flavor, though, was good, with a nice mix of bacon and cheese sauce. It couldโve used a better croissant, though.
Chick-Fil-A Egg White Grill
Chick-fil-Aโs Egg White Grill is a healthier option. The grilled chicken and egg white felt light and fresh, but the sandwich didnโt quite have the flavor punch I was hoping for. Itโs great if youโre looking for something lean, but itโs not something Iโd crave.
Dunkinโ Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich
Iโm more of a Starbucks person, but Dunkinโ might be onto something with their Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich. The bread was thick and substantial, but it was a bit dry and lacked the crispiness I was hoping for. A little more cheese wouldโve helped. Itโs a solid choice for a car breakfast, though.
McDonaldโs Sausage Biscuit With Egg
I donโt usually think of biscuits for breakfast, but McDonaldโs Sausage Biscuit with Egg surprised me. The biscuit was a bit dry and not as flaky as I expected, but the balance of ingredients was good. Itโs not a top choice, but itโs better than the McMuffin.
Starbucksโ Impossible Breakfast Sandwich
As a former vegan, I was excited to try Starbucksโ Impossible Breakfast Sandwich. While the Impossible sausage was decent, it wasnโt quite as good as real sausage. The ciabatta-like bread was good, but the flavors didnโt stand out. Still, when itโs prepared well, itโs hard to dislike.
McDonaldโs Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddles
McGriddles are one of McDonaldโs more unique creations. The pancake-like bread infused with syrup makes this sandwich stand out. Itโs moist and flavorful, though the texture can be a little mushy. Still, itโs a fun breakfast option if youโre looking for something different.
Taco Bell Breakfast Crunchwrap Sausage
Taco Bellโs Breakfast Crunchwrap Sausage might not technically be a sandwich, but itโs close enough to make the list. Itโs easy to eat on the go, and while the flavor is simple, it works well with a bit of Taco Bellโs signature sauce. Itโs a great option for a mess-free, road-trip breakfast.
