KENOSHA, Wis. – A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a student at Carthage College, an incident that has shaken the campus community. The Kenosha Police Department reported that the suspect, who is not affiliated with the college, entered one of the campus buildings on November 13 without permission.

The arrest was made in Racine, and while police continue to investigate what happened, students at Carthage College are voicing concerns about their safety.

“It’s shocking that something like this could happen here,” said Joe Monnig, a Carthage College student. “This is such a rare event, but when it happens, it brings up serious security issues.”

Many students agree with Monnig, saying this incident has brought campus security into sharp focus.

“We need some changes from our public safety team,” Monnig added. “I just hope they come up with something that works, and hopefully, nothing like this ever happens again.”

For female students like Amber Janke, the assault is a harsh reminder of the daily risks they face. She’s calling for better safety measures to help students feel more secure on campus.

“I really hope they add more protections, like keycard access to campus buildings,” Janke shared. “This could happen anywhere, not just here, and we need to stay aware.”

Since the incident, Janke has been more cautious about her surroundings.

“I make sure to stay in touch with someone while I’m walking around,” she said. “I’m always watching where I am, carrying pepper spray, and staying prepared. It’s important to know what resources are available on campus.”

While the suspect is now in custody, police are continuing their investigation to figure out exactly what happened. Meanwhile, the Carthage College community is left hoping for changes that will keep everyone on campus safer in the future.
