A tragic accident occurred in Escondido, San Diego County, when a man installing Christmas lights was electrocuted and subsequently died from his injuries. The incident took place near the intersection of Idaho Avenue and Skyline Drive.
According to reports from KNSD-TV, the man was in the process of draping Christmas lights over a tree when he inadvertently threw the lights over a power line, leading to his electrocution. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the worker was taken to Palomar Hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
The Escondido Fire Department responded to the emergency after San Diego Gas & Electric Co. (SDG&E) shut down the power, allowing rescue crews to safely retrieve the victim using a ladder truck. Battalion Chief Brian Salazar detailed that the man was brought down and immediately transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The homeowner, for whom the man was installing the lights, recounted the accident, highlighting the dangers associated with working near power lines. This incident has raised concerns about safety measures during holiday preparations.
