Georgia Parents Charged After Baby Found with 29 Broken Bones in Shocking Child Abuse Case

Share news:

A heartbreaking story has come out of Rome, Georgia, where a mom and dad are now facing serious charges after their 6-month-old baby girl was found with 29 broken bones all over her tiny body.

Police arrested Savannah Carol-Louise Cox and Shane Avery Moore last week, almost a year after the shocking discovery. Back on February 7, 2024, Cox and her mother rushed the baby to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center. The little girl had a broken leg and bruises on her face, which immediately raised concerns. But when doctors took a closer look, things got much worse. Scans showed the baby had 29 fractures, including broken ribs, arms, and legs—some of them already healing.

What made it even more alarming was how Cox and her mother kept changing their story when nurses asked what had happened. At first, they said the baby had fallen. Then, they started asking if someone could’ve dropped her. Later, Cox claimed the injuries might have happened earlier in the day during a doctor’s appointment. She said she noticed her daughter was hurt later that day and decided to take her to the hospital.

But doctors didn’t buy it. They confirmed the injuries had happened over time and weren’t from just one incident. That’s when authorities stepped in. The Department of Family and Children’s Services took custody of the baby and her sibling, while police began investigating.

At the time of the injuries, Cox, Moore, and Cox’s parents were all living together in the same home with the two children. After nearly a year of piecing the puzzle together, police arrested Cox and Moore last Thursday. Both are now facing charges of child cruelty and aggravated battery.

The couple has since been released on bond, but officials haven’t shared any updates on how the baby is doing now. This story has shaken the community in Rome, a city nestled in the Appalachian foothills about 70 miles northwest of Atlanta. People are left wondering how something so tragic could happen, and many are hoping for justice and healing for the baby and her sister.
