A heartbreaking discovery was made in Salford last week when the body of a newborn baby girl was found near a snowy field. Police have named her Ava and are asking for help from anyone who might know what happened or who her mother is.

A dog walker came across Ava’s remains on Wednesday, 20 November, near a popular park used by walkers and cyclists. The police have been working tirelessly since then, going door to door, checking CCTV footage, and speaking to experts. However, they still don’t know how Ava died. Further tests are being carried out to find answers.
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley, who is leading the investigation, said this case has deeply touched people across Greater Manchester. “We are determined to find out what happened to this little girl,” she shared.
She added that the main focus now is finding Ava’s mother. “We believe Ava’s mum might need medical help, and we want her or anyone in her family to come forward. No matter what the circumstances are, we have people ready to help and support you.”
The police think someone out there knows something. DCI Whalley encouraged people to think back to recent months: “Maybe you saw or heard something that felt off but didn’t seem important at the time. Now that you know what’s happened, please come forward—it could make all the difference.”
The spot where Ava was found is near a road layby close to warehouses and two motorway junctions on the M61, just north-west of Manchester. Last week, police revealed Ava had been wrapped in pink fabric. They’re also working with soil experts and other specialists to figure out how long she had been there before being found.
In a touching gesture, the flowers and tributes left for Ava by the public will be donated to children’s charities once the investigation site closes this weekend.
If you know anything at all, now is the time to speak up. It could help bring answers and justice for baby Ava.
