What a week it’s been, Gulf Coast! Winter really gave us a show with record-breaking snowfall across the area. Mobile and Pensacola made history, each setting new all-time snow records. Mobile got a whopping 7.5 inches of snow, while Pensacola saw an even more impressive 8.9 inches. Some places in the region even reported 8 to 10 inches, and on Tuesday, snowdrifts in certain spots piled up over a foot!
As if that wasn’t enough, Mobile also hit a record daily low temperature on Wednesday, dropping to an icy 6 degrees. That’s the coldest it’s been there since January 21, 1985, when the temperature fell to 3 degrees. For perspective, the all-time record low in Mobile was -1 way back in 1899. What a wild week of winter weather!
Now that the weekend is here, things are looking much calmer. Today, we’ll enjoy partly to mostly cloudy skies with highs climbing into the 60s. It’s a nice change after all that freezing cold! But don’t put those jackets away just yet—tonight into Monday morning, we could see some rain as a cold front moves in from the west.
On Monday, scattered showers and possibly a few rumbles of thunder are expected, especially in inland areas. That said, some rain might make it all the way to the coast, so keep an umbrella handy. Rain chances will start to drop off later in the afternoon and into the evening. Otherwise, we’ll see partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies, with highs ranging from the mid-50s inland to the mid-60s along the coast.
Looking ahead, temperatures are set to warm up as we move through the week. By Tuesday, we’ll be back in the mid-60s, and Wednesday could even touch 70 degrees. Morning lows will gradually climb, staying mostly in the 40s through midweek. By the end of the workweek, expect highs near 70 and lows settling into the 50s. There’s a slight chance of rain midweek, but Friday and next weekend could bring a bigger chance of showers.
If you’re planning to hit the beach, good news: the rip current risk is expected to stay low through the weekend and into early next week.
Enjoy the milder weather, Gulf Coast, and have a great weekend! Let’s hope next week brings fewer surprises and a lot more sunshine.
