Seattle, WA – January 29, 2025 – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch and an Air Stagnation Advisory for multiple regions in Washington State, warning residents about significant weather threats over the next few days.

Winter Storm Watch: Heavy Snow Expected in Cascades

The Winter Storm Watch is set to take effect from Thursday at 7:00 PM PST until Saturday at 4:00 PM PST, impacting:

  • West Slopes North Cascades and Passes
  • West Slopes North Central Cascades and Passes
  • West Slopes South Central Cascades and Passes

The NWS Seattle/Tacoma warns of a significant threat to life and property, with heavy snowfall, hazardous travel conditions, and potential road closures anticipated. Those traveling through the affected areas should prepare for extreme winter conditions, reduced visibility, and icy roads.

Air Stagnation Advisory: Health Risks in Wenatchee

In addition to the storm warning, an Air Stagnation Advisory has been issued for the Wenatchee Area, effective until Friday at 4:00 AM PST. This advisory, issued by the NWS Spokane, indicates stagnant air that could trap pollutants near the surface, leading to deteriorating air quality.

Residents, especially those with respiratory issues, children, and the elderly, are advised to limit outdoor activities and use air purifiers indoors if necessary.

Precautionary Measures for Residents

  • For the Winter Storm: Keep emergency supplies, avoid unnecessary travel, and check for local updates on road conditions.
  • For Air Stagnation: Reduce wood-burning activities, limit outdoor exertion, and monitor air quality reports.

Both advisories signal potentially dangerous weather conditions, and residents are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The NWS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
