A man from the northern suburbs has been charged in a hit-and-run case that seriously injured a woman last year in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood.
The man, Michael Reznik, 37, was allegedly driving fast on West Armitage Avenue near the 2100 block around 10:50 p.m. on May 4, 2024. While speeding westbound, Reznik reportedly hit a 40-year-old woman who was crossing the street at a crosswalk, according to Chicago police.
The impact left the woman with severe injuries, including a brain bleed and multiple fractures to her pelvis, leg, and spine, court documents revealed. Instead of stopping to help, Reznik fled the scene in a dark blue 2006 Bentley, police said.
After months of investigation, police reached out to Reznik’s attorney last week to arrange for him to turn himself in. On Tuesday, Reznik, who lives in Wauconda, was taken into custody.
He now faces some serious charges: a felony for leaving the scene of an accident, another felony for aggravated reckless driving, and a misdemeanor for failing to provide information and aid. Additionally, he received several traffic citations.
Reznik appeared in court on Wednesday and was released from custody shortly after. His next court date is set for February 3.
