Two migrant teens in New York City became victims of a shocking attack on Thursday night, leaving one dead and the other injured. According to police, the incident happened after the teens were asked if they spoke English and they replied that they didn’t.

It all started around 7:40 p.m. in Lower Manhattan when three men approached the teens. One of the men asked the teens if they could speak English, and when they said no, things turned violent. Police later found the two teens after responding to a 911 call about an assault in the area.

One of the victims, 17-year-old Yeremi Colino, was stabbed in the chest. The other, an 18-year-old whose name hasn’t been released, suffered a stab wound to his left arm. Both were rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue by emergency services. Tragically, Yeremi didn’t survive, while the 18-year-old is now in stable condition.

The surviving teen told police he thought the weapon used was a screwdriver. However, a knife was recovered at the scene and is being tested for forensics.
