A man from Hyde Park has been charged after allegedly stabbing two workers at Provident Hospital in Bronzeville earlier this week.
Nathaniel Price, 36, is facing two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for the attack, which happened around 1 p.m. on Monday.
According to Chicago police and Cook County Health officials, the victims were a 56-year-old man and a 32-year-old man. Both were stabbed with a sharp object at the hospital located in the 500 block of East 51st Street. Fortunately, doctors were able to stabilize their conditions, and they are recovering.
Price was taken into custody less than 30 minutes after the incident. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Cook County Health CEO Erik Mikaitis praised the quick response of hospital staff, saying their actions prevented a potentially tragic situation.
“This kind of violence is deeply unsettling and reflects the increasing risks faced by healthcare workers,” Mikaitis said in a statement.
The attack highlights the growing concern over the safety of medical professionals, who are increasingly facing threats and violence in their workplaces. Authorities continue to investigate the incident while ensuring the safety of hospital staff and patients.
