It all started around 3:30 p.m. when Broward County emergency dispatchers got a call about gunshots in the 2800 block of Somerset Drive. According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, McLean was playing music when a neighbor complained it was too loud. What should have been a simple discussion took a deadly turn.
Rose McLean, Hureleyon’s wife, shared her grief and disbelief about what happened. She told reporters her husband went downstairs to talk to the neighbor after the complaint. Moments later, she heard a gunshot that shattered their family celebration.
“I heard it, and I just flew to the door,” Rose recounted. “When I looked out, my husband was lying face down in blood.” She ran downstairs and saw her husband’s lifeless body while the neighbor stood nearby, still holding the gun.
Rose described the chilling confrontation. “I went up to him and asked, ‘Why did you shoot my husband? Why?’ He looked at me and said, ‘If I didn’t shut my mouth, he would shoot me, too.’”
Hureleyon was declared dead at the scene, and deputies quickly detained the shooter. The neighbor, whose name hasn’t been released yet, claimed he acted in self-defense and cooperated with investigators.
But Rose strongly disputes that claim. “My husband didn’t have any weapons,” she said. “He didn’t even have a knife on him.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation and will present their findings to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to decide if charges will be filed.
For now, a family is left grieving during what should have been a day of gratitude and celebration. Rose’s heartbreaking words capture the depth of their loss: “He was just playing his music… he didn’t deserve this.”
