Tragedy Strikes NYC Subway: Two Violent Attacks in Just 24 Hours

Share news:

A man was attacked during rush hour on a Manhattan subway Tuesday morning, just hours after a teenager was stabbed in a separate subway incident.

It all started around 9 a.m. when a 28-year-old man was standing on the southbound M train platform at 42nd Street-Bryant Park. What began as an argument with another rider suddenly escalated. The other man pulled out a sharp object and slashed the victim on his arm before hopping onto an arriving train and disappearing, police said.

The victim, thankfully, is expected to be okay and was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he’s in stable condition. As for the attacker, police are still looking for him. Witnesses described him as around 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium complexion, wearing a black hat, a beige shirt, and a green jacket. It’s still unclear what caused the argument to turn violent.

This incident came on the heels of another troubling attack on the subway the day before. Around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed during a fight on a southbound M train at the Court Square-23rd Street station.

Police say the teen got into a heated dispute with a man, believed to be in his 20s. Out of nowhere, the man stabbed the boy in the stomach before running away. The teen was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where doctors say he’s in stable condition. The attacker, dressed entirely in black, is still on the run.

What sparked either of these violent clashes remains a mystery, but police are actively investigating. These back-to-back incidents have left commuters shaken, with many calling for increased safety measures on the subway.
