Tragedy Strikes on Thanksgiving: Grandmother Stabs Daughter and Grandson in Shocking Family Argument

Share news:

A Thanksgiving Day gathering in Memphis, Tennessee, took a shocking turn when 55-year-old Lachunda Johnson was arrested for allegedly stabbing her own daughter and grandson. Memphis Police shared that the incident happened in South Memphis after an argument spiraled out of control.

It all started when Johnson reportedly shoved her grandson, which led to a heated argument with her daughter. While the daughter was briefly distracted, Johnson allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and charged at her. The daughter managed to block the attack but ended up with a cut on her left hand. The grandson wasn’t as lucky and was stabbed near his thumb.

Three kids were present during the chaos but thankfully were unharmed. According to the daughter, Johnson appeared to be heavily drinking and was likely intoxicated at the time.

After the attack, Johnson fled the scene but didn’t get far. Police tracked her down on Cazassa Road and arrested her without any issues. She was taken to Jail East, a detention facility located outside Memphis, and now faces charges of aggravated assault and domestic assault. At this time, no bond has been set.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only violent event to cast a shadow on Thanksgiving. In San Antonio, Texas, a Thursday morning gathering ended in tragedy when a man opened fire on a group of five people at a home. Two men in their 20s were killed, and two others were injured.

The shooter, who knew everyone involved, left the home after spending the night there, only to return and unleash a hail of bullets. Police caught up with him a few blocks away and took him into custody. Investigators are still piecing together what led to this horrific act. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus described the incident as “senseless” and vowed to find answers.

Sadly, Thanksgiving violence isn’t new. Back in 2021, another heartbreaking event took place in Lawrenceville, Georgia. An 18-year-old named Varian Hibbert was arrested for stabbing his mother, Marcia Chance, to death in their home. Officers found her lifeless body when they arrived, confirming she had died from stab wounds.

These tragedies remind us that while Thanksgiving is meant to be a time of gratitude and togetherness, some families face unimaginable heartbreak.
