A family in Washington State is heartbroken after their 15-year-old daughter, Grace Horn, tragically lost her life in a car accident early Monday morning.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Grace was driving when she lost control of her vehicle, veered into the opposite lane, and crashed into a pole near SR20 and Libby Road. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her parents, Jennifer and Jake Horn, believed she was safely asleep in her bed that night. However, it was later revealed that Grace had been secretly delivering food to earn money for Christmas gifts for her loved ones.
A family friend, Christine Messmer, shared the devastating news on a GoFundMe page set up to support the Horn family. “In the early hours of December 2nd, the unimaginable happened,” she wrote. “Grace, just 15 years old, was taken from us too soon. When her parents thought she was tucked in for the night, she was out trying to make extra money to buy presents for her family and friends.”
Messmer explained that the crash occurred in poor visibility conditions, which may have contributed to Grace losing control of her vehicle. Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to save her.
The sudden loss has left Grace’s parents struggling with overwhelming grief. “No parent should ever have to go through this,” Messmer wrote. “Instead of wrapping presents for their daughter, they are now planning her funeral.”
Grace was known for her kindness, independence, and willingness to help others. “She never liked asking for help,” Messmer said. “She always wanted to find a way to fix any problem. She was a friend to everyone, always willing to take a chance on people.”
Friends and family described her as witty, full of laughter, and someone who brought joy to those around her. “Her laugh was unlike any other—so full of innocence,” Messmer added.
A fundraiser was launched to help the family with funeral expenses and had raised over $20,000 by Saturday. Many donors shared heartfelt messages, remembering Grace as a caring and hardworking young girl taken too soon.
Grace’s parents told local news that their loss is unbearable. “She was a peacekeeper with a hilarious sense of humor,” they said. “Our pain is insurmountable.”
The community continues to rally around the Horn family, offering love and support as they navigate this heartbreaking time.
