A tragic car crash in Discovery Bay has left one security guard dead and another seriously injured after a teenager slammed his car into a security booth early Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the 17-year-old driver was heading east on Balfour Road when he went through the intersection at Bixler Road. Moments later, his car plowed into the security booth of a gated community located just two miles east of Brentwood.
Inside the booth were two security guards. The crash happened just before midnight, leaving one of them dead at the scene. The other guard was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, CHP Officer Dan Gilmore shared.
The teen driver was also briefly hospitalized as a precaution before being taken into custody. He’s now in the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall, facing charges of vehicular manslaughter.
Officer Gilmore noted that the crash is still under investigation, but there’s no evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved.
