An Alabama man has admitted to killing his wife after initially filing a missing person report and asking for help to find her.

Stephen Miller confessed to choking his wife, Gloria Miller, following a physical altercation, according to local police. Investigators allege that during the argument, Stephen put his hands around Gloria’s throat and suffocated her until she died.

After the incident, Miller loaded his wife’s body into his truck and drove to a creek in Geneva County, where he disposed of it. Later, he reported Gloria missing and reached out to the community and local news outlets, asking for assistance in locating her.

Dothan Police Lieutenant Ronald Hall explained that authorities became suspicious of Miller’s account as the details did not add up. “We had investigators all over the place,” Hall said. Eventually, Stephen realized he had no choice but to tell the truth and confessed to the crime.

Miller had also contacted news organizations to share Gloria’s picture, acting as though he was desperate to find her. However, detectives were able to uncover inconsistencies in his story. Their investigation also revealed a history of domestic violence in the couple’s relationship, with both Gloria and Stephen having previously filed complaints against each other.

Authorities charged Stephen Miller with murder. He is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond.
