A Chicago firefighter was hospitalized on Thursday night while fighting a large fire at a furniture store in Roseland.

The fire broke out in a building on the 11200 block of South Michigan Avenue, prompting an emergency response from the Chicago Fire Department. As the flames spread, a mayday alert was issued, signaling that a firefighter was in danger and needed help.

A specially trained Rapid Intervention Team quickly searched the building and rescued the firefighter. He was taken to the hospital but was reported to be in good condition and was expected to recover. Officials said he would likely be released soon.

By 8:30 p.m., the fire was still burning, and crews continued working to bring it under control.

Authorities have not released further details about what caused the fire or the extent of the damage. The investigation is ongoing.
