In a swift response to a series of robberies, the Lufkin Police Department arrested 46-year-old Antonio Jerome Mitchell from Alto, Texas, on March 7, 2025. Mitchell is suspected of being involved in several criminal incidents, including two aggravated robberies and an attempted robbery in Lufkin.

The arrest follows an investigation launched after an incident at Western Finance on South Chestnut Street. At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday, a man, later identified as Mitchell, entered the business, demanded money, and made threatening gestures suggesting he was armed. The employee complied, and Mitchell fled the scene. The description provided by the employee matched that of the suspect in a robbery that took place on February 28 at Payment One Financial on Brentwood Drive.

While officers were speaking to the employee from Western Finance, they received another report of an attempted robbery at Covington Credit on Wednesday Frank Avenue. Armed with a vehicle description, officers canvassed the area and found a silver Ford Explorer parked at an apartment complex on South John Redditt Drive. After searching nearby apartments, they located and arrested Mitchell.

Mitchell is currently being held at the Angelina County Jail on two charges of aggravated robbery. Following his arrest, he reportedly admitted to his involvement in the robbery and attempted robbery that day. Investigators are continuing to explore connections to the February 28 robbery and believe Mitchell could also be responsible for a recent robbery in Alto.

All four incidents, including three in Lufkin and one in Alto, remain under active investigation as law enforcement works diligently to uncover any additional details.
